Back Alleys with the Ricoh GRII

Patrick Chondon December 16, 2019

It’s cold here in Thunder Bay now, especially in the mornings. I’m still trying to get out first thing in the mornings for my photo walk. I do this for a couple reasons. It’s a great, fun way to get some exercise to start the day and also, I get to take photos which I absolutely love. Plus, the lighting this time of year in the morning is actually quite nice. It was a sunny morning today which isn’t always ideal, but luckily the light was still fairly soft. It also forced me to work with shadows.

Evening Walk with the Ricoh GRII

Patrick Chondon March 17, 2018

Just before I left the house for my walk I almost took my Nikon D750 with me but I decided on my trusty Ricoh GRII instead. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get my usual shallow depth of field shots that I capture with the Nikon primes, but the Ricoh forced me to shoot in a completely different way. Plus, it’s extremely small and fun to use.

Before the Snowstorm

Patrick Chondon December 6, 2017

It had been a while since I got the chance to just walk around aimlessly and take photos on the street. A few days ago I did exactly that. One of my favourite areas in town is Simpson Street so I parked on a side street and prepared to explore. Of course, I never dress warm enough, so it made the walk a bit more rushed then I would have liked. In hindsight, I should have grabbed those gloves from the back seat.

Morning Exploration with the XPro-2

Patrick Chondon May 16, 2017

I had the chance to walk around a bit in the morning as I waited for the car to be done in the shop. I captured a few photos on the way home from the dealership as well as a bit of exploration around Simpson Street. This time around I used the X-Pro2 combined with the 35mm 1.4. It's such a fantastic combo, and very easy to carry around. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it's a really fun camera to use.

Sunday Evening Walk

Patrick Chondon April 9, 2017

It was an overcast day and somewhat warm out, so I decided to grab my Nikon D750 and 35mm lens and venture over to Hillcrest Park. Admittedly, it's hard sometimes to find new things to photograph, especially when I tend to walk in the same areas. So, what I try to do, is go down a different back alley, or walk from a different direction. Often times, just looking behind you or walking the opposite direction can give you a completely fresh perspective.

The Last Day of March

Patrick Chondon March 31, 2017

It was the last day of March and the weather was actually cooperating, although it was a bit wet. I ended up going on a couple different short walks, one was around Bay Street and the other was in Castlegreen before I picked up Anne from her friends house.

Algoma Street Walk

Patrick Chondon March 28, 2017

It was one of those days that I just didn't want to sit behind my computer and stare at a screen, so I figured I would get and enjoy some of the nice weather, and take some photos in the process. This time around, I took my Nikon D750 paired with the 35mm 1.8. I always go on about the tones and colours that come out of my Fuji cameras, but the Nikon is right there as well, and if anything, the colours are just as good. For the longest time I would always just carry around the 50mm lens but I think the 35mm on the Nikon is my new favourite. It's a nice balance and it has amazing close focusing abilities. I'm able to blur out the background easily and the bokeh produced is actually quite pleasing.

It was an overcast kind of day

Patrick Chondon March 26, 2017

It was finally and overcast and gloomy day, and I was so thankful for it. Don't get me wrong, I like sun as next as the next person, but my absolute type of weather for walking around taking photos it definitely cloudy, overcast days. I just love the lighting and the tones.

Downtown Fort William

Patrick Chondon March 24, 2017

Last week I decided to wander around good old Fort William. Each time I go there, I always find new spots and different angles. This time around I brought my Nikon D750 and 35mm 1.8. I think it's the perfect walk around lens. It allows me to get in really close but it's also perfect for capturing authentic street photography, that loos natural to the eye.

Back Roads on Cumberland Street

Patrick Chondon February 17, 2017

I had the afternoon off and it was a decently warm day so I grabbed my camera and headed down to Cumberland Street. It had been a while since I had the chance to walk around this area to take photos so I figured it was as good a time as any. As I usually do, I parked the car and wandered in and out of the back alleys looking for anything the caught my me.

Kaministiquia River Heritage Park in the Fog

Patrick Chondon January 24, 2017

As I mentioned in my previous post which took place in the Mission Marsh, it was a very foggy day. This post contains photos taken in and around Kam Park. Seeing as how I ended up going to 3 different locations that day, I figured I would split the photos up, because I think I got a lot of great shots. I couldn't think of a better place to go on a foggy day then Kam Park. With the boardwalk, the tugboat and even the tunnel, it was a no brainer.

East End in the Morning

Patrick Chondon January 23, 2017

East End was one of my latest locations for a quick photo walk. I have walked around this location numerous times but there is always something new to photograph, and I proved that by coming away with a few good shots. For this walk I brought along my Fuji X-T1 and the 16-55mm 2.8. It allowed me to get a good mix of wide angle and also some close up shots. It was foggy all day so I knew I had to get out and take photos. I never though I would say this, but it almost too foggy. With that being said, the extreme weather allowed for some pretty unique captures.

Walk around the block

Patrick Chondon January 19, 2017

Earlier in the week I was able to able to walk around on my short lunch break during work. Knowing I was going to have a break, I made sure to bring my Fuji XT-1 and 35mm 1.4. It's a super small, yet powerful combo. So, I wolfed down my lunch so I had more time to actually spend outside taking photos. I decided to just stay in the area and walk the back alley and streets like I usually do. For some reason, I always find more interesting things in the back lanes.

Last Day of the Weekend

Patrick Chondon January 18, 2017

This is going to be a short post, but I did want to take a moment to share some more photos from this past weekend. Just like in my previous post, I took our dog Willow for a walk, just as the sun was setting. So there was some really good soft lighting coming into play.

From the Past Few Days

Patrick Chondon December 25, 2016

Now that I have a short break I figured I would post a few of the photos I have taken over the past few days. Most of these were taken during my lunch break. I used a combination of my Fuji XT-1 and 35mm 1.5 (50mm) and of course the Nikon D750 paired with a couple different primes.

A Bit of Randomness

Patrick Chondon August 5, 2016

So it seems as though I have gotten way behind on posting my personal stuff. Not just because wedding season is in full swing and it's the busiest time of year, but also life has just been busy. It doesn't help when your house floods for the 2nd time in 2 years as well. In any case, here are some of my favourite photos from the past 3-4 months.
